Wow, never saw that one coming. Again there are lot's of unexpected twists and turns in this second installment of Kari Mallot. I'm hanging out for the third one now. Both books actually capture some pretty contemporary issues in America. Government, or 'systemic', corruption (very topical with the looming 2016 election) is addressed in an apolitical way by the avenger fiend 419. And what does 419 mean anyway? I've had my guess, but I must have missed the mark. Regardless, some more high level heads roll in this rendition, it's bigger than Watergate.
I first read Episode One and then immediately acquired Episode Two. The story concerns the interaction between a TV reporter in a very small market, and a highly intelligent criminal who believes the system has failed to catch people who are protected by reason of their wealth or position in society. He decides to correct these inequities by making the miscreants confess in such a way that they will not only be believed, but will lose their wealth or exalted position or even the respect of their families. Kari Mallot is the reporter who is the beneficiary of the information about these people and sometimes is actually the person to whom the confessions are made, in such a way that she gets the "exclusive" on the story, causing her to get her dream job in Washington D.C.
The interaction between Kari and the criminal only becomes more complicated after she relocates.
Hopefully, the next Episode will be released VERY soon because there are some people who might be tempted to "encourage" the author to write faster. Not me, of course, but the possibility exists...
I received episodes one and two from InstaFreebie in exchange for an honest review. This is a thrilling mystery with unexpected twists and turns. I can't wait to read episode three to get the meaning of the name four-one-nine. Excellent books
This books starts off exactly where it left off in the first one and I love that. In this story, Kari starts her new job in Washington just to find out that the mystery guy is back again and more adventurous this time around. Now she starts to regret working with this mystery man. As she looks for a way out, she realize she is in too deep!
Stayed up late last night to finish this episode, which I purchased alone with episode 3 yesterday. I got a bit impatient in the middle as I had a theory on the identity of 419 and wanted the plot to move on to see if I was on track! However the final twist at the end was wanting for! It made me reassess my theory and second guess myself, but I'm now uncertain about the outcome (which I believe is the trademark of a well written thriller) and will be finding the time to read the last instalment today. I really liked Grace and am hoping she and Kari can maintain their friendship despite the cliff hanger ending.
